Osteoarthritis is degenerative joint disease. It is characterized by a gradual loss of cartilage and overgrowth of bone (osteophytes). Regular exercise, weight control, proper nutrition, and a healthy diet, are all part of a comprehensive treatment plan for osteoarthritis. This 15 days package includes the following:- Consultation:
Each patient will be examined about age, family history, occupation which involves daily overuse of joints, any injury to a joint and Obesity. The amount and form of exercise recommended for each individual will vary depending on which joints are involved, the amount of inflammation and how stable the joints are. Additional recommendations may be given on weight control and therapeutic exercises. (Therapeutic Exercises imply training our bodies to better perform the types of movements we use for everyday living e.g. lifting laundry basket, reaching refrigerator or clothes dryer, going up stairs). - Three types of Exercises that increase bone density (15 days package)
- Range-of-motion Exercises: Helps to maintain normal joint movement and relieve stiffness. This helps to increase flexibility.
- Strengthening/ Resistance Exercises: Resistance Exercise Improves Strength and Reduces Pain. Strong muscles support and protect joints affected by arthritis.
- Aerobic or Endurance exercises: Aerobic exercise Improves cardiovascular fitness, helps to control weight, and improve overall function (e.g. bicycle riding).
